United Bank & Trust donated $10,000 to Washington’s playground project, raising the total to $174,000. The goal is to reach $200,000 by the end of October to secure a $400,000 grant for a new playground at Washington City Park.
The city started the fundraising with $100,000 from the Larry Davison estate, and several donations have followed, including a $50,000 anonymous pledge. Community events are planned to raise the remaining $25,000.
There’s discussion about possibly pursuing a $500,000 grant, which requires a 42% match, meaning $210,000 would be needed. The city council has offered an additional $35,000, if necessary, but it’s not yet included in the total.
The new ADA-compliant playground would replace the aging structure, with plans for a rubber mat surface to reduce maintenance costs.
