On Saturday, September 14th the Blue Rapids Museum will host a program on the orphan trains that came through the City in the early 1900s. Taking place at 11:00 a.m., this free event will feature stories of different orphans through the eyes of Anna Laura Hill, former placing agent for the Christian Aid Society.
Jan Pope of Blue Rapids will play the part of Anna L. Hill. Pope said this program will specifically discuss the times the orphan train stopped in Blue Rapids.
Pope said this program is in conjunction with their current “A Train Runs Through It: Railroad and Railroaders in Blue Rapids.” The display will be open for viewing during the program. Pope said there are also other unique displays in the museum.
The museum will also have a sack lunch available after the program, based on food they believe the orphans would have eaten on the train. To purchase a sack lunch or to get more information contact Lori Parker at the museum.
