Join the Flint Hills Discovery Center (FHDC) for Builders Bash, a hands-on celebration of all things building, construction, and design, on Saturday, October 18 from 10 am to 3 pm. Whether you’re a DIY enthusiast, future engineer, or just curious about how spaces come to life, this event is packed with inspiration, innovation, and interactive fun!

Kids of all ages will enjoy:

  • Seeing and touching different types of trucks and construction equipment
  • “Construction site” play area
  • Building a take-home toolbox
  • Beehive construction
  • Engineering and building “Boxhattan”
  • Giveaway of the book What We’ll Build by Oliver Jeffers to the first 300 youth in attendance
  • Toolbelt giveaway (while supplies last)
  • Exploring the temporary exhibit, Building Buddies
  • and more!

“Builders Bash is where big imaginations and little hands get to work”, says Sally Dreher, Curator of Education. “Whether kids are buzzing about beehives, building their own toolboxes, or exploring real-world construction vehicles up-close, every activity is packed with fun, curiosity, and STEAM-powered discovery. This event offers families a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful experiences designed to inspire innovation, problem-solving, and collaborative learning. We hope to offer a little reminder that with creativity and teamwork, anything is possible!”

Youth admission (ages 2-17) is free thanks to Midwest Concrete Materials. Regular admission rates apply for adults 18+. Children under two are free.
