Kansas State University

Kansas State University’s College of Architecture, Planning & Design, or APDesign, has selected BBN Architects as the recipient of the 2025 Firm of the Year Award. This prestigious honor recognizes BBN Architects’ outstanding contributions to the field of architecture and their enduring commitment to excellence, innovation and mentorship within the profession.

The Firm of the Year Award is given annually to an architectural firm that has demonstrated leadership in design, significant impact on the built environment, and a strong partnership with the college and its students. BBN Architects has consistently exemplified these values, engaging in meaningful collaborations with APDesign and fostering the next generation of design professionals.

“BBN Architects has been a vital partner in shaping the future of architecture through their commitment to mentorship and cutting-edge design,” said Michael McClure, dean of the College of Architecture, Planning & Design. “Their work exemplifies the highest standards of the profession, and we are proud to recognize their achievements with this award.”

For decades, BBN Architects has been at the forefront of architectural innovation, influencing both regional and national projects. The company’s dedication to sustainability, community engagement and design excellence aligns with APDesign’s mission to prepare students for impactful careers in the built environment.

The award ceremony, held during a reception as part of the 2025 Design Expo in Regnier Hall, brought together students, faculty, alumni and industry professionals to celebrate this significant achievement. Representatives from BBN Architects shared insights into their design philosophy and the importance of fostering future leaders in architecture.

The event also highlighted the annual Bowman Design Forum, a longstanding tradition introduced by K-State alumnus Brent Bowman. This forum allows third-year architecture students to compete for scholarships through innovative design submissions while engaging with nationally recognized architects. The Bowman Design Forum exemplifies the strong tradition of partnership between the department of architecture and the professional architectural community, an alliance that has significantly advanced the discipline and enriched all those involved.

During the past 26 years, BBN Architects has brought some of the most influential American designers to APDesign as critics and lecturers. Their contributions have provided invaluable critiques and inspiration to generations of students at Seaton Hall. Kansas State University is grateful for its enduring partnership with BBN Architects and the profound impact they have had on architectural education and practice.
