Humanities Kansas (HK) has announced a statewide tour of “Declaration 1776: The Big Bang of Modern Democracy,” a traveling exhibition from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, with a stop in Abilene. The exhibit will tour 47 Kansas community cultural organizations from January 3 to December 31, 2026.

Four copies will travel the state, while six will remain on long-term display at universities and institutions. The exhibition explores the revolutionary impact of the Declaration of Independence and how its ideas of equality and self-determination have inspired movements worldwide.

A special “Kansas 1776” section examines what was happening in the region 250 years ago. Sponsored by state and national partners, the exhibit will include a stop at the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum.  A full schedule of stops is available at humanitieskansas.org.
