The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) updated childcare regulations on August 2. These updates apply to Family Child Care Homes, Child Care Centers, and Preschools, featuring a simplified license, adjusted age ranges, and child-to-staff ratios, modernized language, and streamlined staff qualifications.
KDHE is offering five training sessions on Zoom. Participants should attend only one session relevant to their facility type. The remaining sessions are for home providers on Monday, August 12, from 6-7:30 p.m., and for centers and preschools on Tuesday, August 13, from 6-7:30 p.m.
A letter detailing the amended regulations, sent on July 23, included key points and an implementation timeline, with all new regulations to be fully implemented by August 2025. This transition involved community and partner collaboration to align with federal licensing requirements. The full letter is on the KDHE website.
