Manhattan Area Technical College (MATC) celebrated the realization of a multi-year vision with the opening of its new 47,000-square-foot Advanced Technology Center last week. Instead of the traditional ribbon-cutting, officials used an electric saw to cut a “Building Hire Education” banner, symbolizing the center’s focus on advanced training.
The facility houses six technical programs, a state-of-the-art biosafety simulation lab, classrooms, a conference room, and a modern computer lab. Daryn Soldan, Economic Development Director for the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the center’s role in training the local workforce, including young people, transitioning military personnel, and individuals pursuing new careers. MATC President James Genandt emphasized the center’s impact on regional economic development, projecting a $15-20 million boost to the local economy.
The new facility allows MATC to double enrollment in existing programs and introduce three new programs for Fall 2025: Biomanufacturing, Electrician Technology, and Plumbing Technology.
