Riley County Launches Campaign to Educate Young Voters Ahead of General Election

Riley County KS Release

The Riley County Elections Division is launching a campaign to educate young voters, particularly high school and college students. The campaign will feature a series of brief videos and social media posts offering guidance on voter registration, key deadlines, and how to access essential resources like sample ballots and polling locations.

“Over the years, we’ve noticed younger voters, particularly college students, often register to vote in their home counties and assume they can vote at any polling location. Unfortunately, many realize too late this isn’t the case,” explained County Clerk Rich Vargo. “Each voting district has a unique ballot with specific candidates and issues tied to local elections. Our goal is to inform students they should either request a mail-in ballot from their home county in advance, plan to vote in person in their home county on Election Day, or register to vote in Riley County using their local address to vote here.”

The videos will be shared on the Riley County website, YouTube channel, and social media pages. Residents and community organizations are encouraged to spread the message by sharing the content on their own social media platforms. You can watch the first video at: https://youtu.be/-Udfa6b7dfk?si=rqX3hV3ZyTSimiw1

The deadline to register for the November 5th General Election is October 15th. U.S. citizens who are 18 or older can register to vote in person at the Riley County Elections Office, located at 115 N. 4th Street in Manhattan. Voter registration is also available online at www.rileycountyks.gov/elections

Polling places will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on November 5th. In-person advance voting will be offered at the Riley County Office building (110 Courthouse Plaza) and at the K-State Student Union in the Bluemont Room.
