Marshall County Arts Cooperative
The stage at Venue 36 will come alive with a dazzling array of hues and harmonies as the Marshall County Arts Cooperative presents “In Full Color at the Replay Lounge,” their largest annual fundraiser. This celebration of community talent will take place on January 31 and February 1 at 7:00 p.m., promising audiences a captivating blend of creativity, emotion, and color.
Reserved seats are already sold out, but general admission tickets are still available through marshallcountyarts.org, by calling 785-859-4260, or in person at 617 Broadway in Marysville during weekday hours, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The performers are Brian Cook, Mandy Cook, Micah Kee, Ashley Kracht, Bryan Kracht, Joy Kramer, Kayn Milholland, and Julie Popejoy. Cindy Voet is the musical director, and there will be a live band accompanying the performers.
The theme, which brings to life songs featuring colors in their titles, inspired a diverse lineup of performances.
“‘Black Hole Sun’ has always been a very mysterious song to me,” said performer Joy Kramer, who will deliver a haunting rendition of the Soundgarden classic, reimagined by Brandi Carlile. “When I discovered Brandi’s version, I knew I could do it! Most of the phrases in the lyrics are just a play on words that were put together. I sort of feel like that’s where I am in life at this point. As a mom, a wife, a community member, I’m just trying to piece together all that life is throwing at me.”
Kramer’s choice highlights the reflective, multi-layered emotions woven into the show.
For performer Bryan Kracht, the color theme was an opportunity to explore the heartfelt message of Kacey Musgraves’ “Rainbow.” He first heard the song on “The Masked Singer” performed by Victor Oladipo, an NBA player.
“The lyrics to this song are so meaningful,” Kracht said. “That’s what makes this show so special: every song has its own story, and every performer brings a unique perspective to the stage.”
The performers’ costumes are as vivid as the songs they sing. Mandy Cook, who embraced the theme with her bold yellow attire, remarked, “Bright colors have always been my preference. Yellow, red, orange—anything vibrant feels like home to me. We hope the audience gets swept away in the swirl of colors we’re highlighting on stage.”
Audience members can expect both familiar favorites and hidden gems. Julie Popejoy’s performance of “Big Yellow Taxi” brings a fresh take on a timeless message. The song was originally recorded by Joni Mitchell in 1970.
“I’ve always loved the song but really enjoy the newer version by Counting Crows,” Popejoy shared. “It’s a bit outside of my usual style, but I’m excited to present something different. This show is about celebrating variety and discovering something new.”
With a blend of seasoned and new performers, the show’s artistic depth has only grown. Joy Kramer summed it up, praising the contributions of Kayn Milholland. “He’s been an excellent addition—not just vocally, but technically. He’s brought something to this show that’s never been seen before.”
This unique event showcases the creativity and talent of local performers, bringing the theme of color to life through music and storytelling.
