Seven churches in Abilene are collaborating to bring their 2nd annual Community Theatrical Easter Production to the community on Thursday, April 17th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 19th at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. All productions will take place in the Abilene High School Auditorium.
“Once and For All” will give the audience a powerful rendition of Jesus’s life and sacrifices. Leah Perry, Production Coordinator, said this production came from Cincinnati, Ohio.
“The script that we’re doing called ‘Once and For All’ has been performed for over 40 years at churches in Cincinnati, Ohio, where I moved from.”
“I have a theater background, and my husband directed it for four in Cincinnati. We have adapted it for our version here and we just pray that the Lord will use it to grow his Kingdom. It’s been a joy to do it the last two years in Abilene.”
Perry said she wanted to do the production after learning about the previous Easter Sunrise in Brown’s Park, which was not brought back after the COVID-19 pandemic. Perry spoke a bit about this hour-and-a-half production.
“The production depicts the Ministry of Jesus Christ, starting with his temptation and then ending with his resurrection. There are songs throughout that help tell the story as well.”
“I’m biased, but I think it’s a beautiful and a unique opportunity to experience the gospel.”
“It’s also a great way for families to celebrate the Easter season together. We have families who are doing it together. We have families who come to see it together, and that’s been a really big desire of our hearts.”
All three productions are free to attend, with a free-will donation being welcomed to help continue this new tradition. Perry did highlight that this production may be too graphic for young children, so parents should use discretion if planning to attend.
