The Flint Hills Discovery Center’s annual Flint Hills Festival is set for Saturday, May 3rd at the Blue Earth Plaza from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This annual Festival is free to the public and offers something for people of all ages.
Jonathan Mertz, Event Supervisor, said there will also be various exhibitors in the Discovery Center. The Festival will feature 10 food trucks, live entertainment, and much more.
“We will have over 30 community and regional partners at the Festival. They’ll be doing activities and letting you know about things that you can do in the Flint Hills, like visiting the Tall Grass Preserve, or going to see Mount Mitchell Heritage Prairie. There will also be several social service agencies here with information.”
“We’ll have free train rides, we’ll have a bounce house, and a big slide for the kids. For the adults, we do have a tent that will have 5 Wineries and a local Brewery. It’s just a fun day for everyone.”
During the Festival streets will be blocked off, limiting parking. Mertz gave some information on the best places to park that day.
“There is a parking garage attached to the Convention Center on Fort Riley Blvd. During the Festival, they will not be enforcing parking fees, so that’s a great place to park.”
“There’s also some public parking around the Town Center Mall and some other city-owned parking areas nearby. It might take a little while, but there is parking to be found.”
Mertz said this is one of the Discovery Center’s largest events of the year. Last year, they estimated around 6,000 attendees.
