CCCC Music Department presenting spring band concert

Cloud County Community College’s Music Department will present its Spring Band Concert on Monday, May 21. The concert, which is free, will be at 7 p.m. in Cook Theatre on the Concordia campus.

The concert will feature the Rolling Thunder Pep Band, North Central Kansas Community Concert Band, and the Cloud Kicks Jazz Band.

The Pep Band, under the direction of Christopher Langsford, Cloud County Music Instructor, will perform several songs, including “Handclap” (as recorded by Fitz & The Tantrums), “Smoke on the Water” (as recorded by Deep Purple), and “September” (as recorded by Earth, Wind and Fire).

The Concert Band, which is a non-auditioned community ensemble that performs primarily traditional wind and concert band selections, will perform “Excellentia Overture,” “Chanson and Bourrée,” “Down by the Salley Gardens,” and “Studio Ghibli’s Anime March Medley.” The Concert Band is under the direction of Daniel Hill, Cloud County adjunct music instructor.

The Jazz Band is an auditioned ensemble open to both college and community members
that performs a Blues, Jazz, Big Band, Latin, and Rock repertoire. The band will perform several numbers, including “Downtown Tango,” “Yesterday” (as recorded by The Beatles), and “The Creole Love Call.” The Jazz Band is under the direction of Langsford.

The concert will also feature the Music Department’s end-of-the-year student awards.
