The Dickinson County Historical Society will host its annual ‘Old Fashioned Christmas’ celebration at the Heritage Center in Abilene on Friday, December 5th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 6th, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Visitors can enjoy live music, carousel rides on the historic C.W. Parker Carousel, children’s activities, and much more.

Historical Society Director Austin Anders said that something new this year is holding the event on Friday and Saturday.

“We are changing up our dates this year. We’re actually going to do Friday and Saturday. We’ve done Sundays the last four years, but we’re going to try Friday.”

“We also have a mixture of new musicians who are coming into play. The Jammers will be in on Friday night. On Saturday, we have Cauy Hayes, who is new to us. We’re excited to have him come out and play. He’s a local.”

Visitors can also tour the new Farm Toy Museum, with nearly 2,000 vintage farm toys on display. Other activities included a Bazaar, a 4-H tree decorating contest, a lighted Christmas Village, and, of course, Santa will be in attendance.

Anders said this annual tradition is a way to bring the holidays back to simpler times.

“It gives us an opportunity to share with the community a little history, the way Christmas used to be.”

“It means a lot to people to have that throwback to maybe a better time when they were younger.”

Entry for patrons is five dollars, with the money going to help the Heritage Center with future activities; children 5 and under are free.
