On Saturday, June 7th the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office will host its “Cops & Bobbers” youth fishing event at Father Padilla Pond in Herington from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Dickinson County youth aged 2 to 18 are welcome, with all fishing tackle being provided.

Deputy Brandon Depew with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office said that with a bunch of officers who enjoy fishing and hunting, this event seemed like the answer.

“We lost our Shop With a COP program, so we were looking for a different way to interact with our youth in Dickinson County.”

“We tried to figure out what the best thing to do was. We have a bunch of officers that are avid outdoorsmen, so we decided we could all get together with our youth and do a fishing event.”

Each youth attendee will be provided with a fishing pole, tackle box, bait, and lunch thanks to generous sponsors. Prizes and raffle items will be given out, across three different age groups.

Depew said youth do not need to know how to fish, there will be plenty of First Responders there to help out.

“This is going to be a time to just come, hang out, and have fun. There are no prerequisites for this.”

“If the kids don’t know how to fish, we can hook them up with either a law enforcement officer, or somebody who knows what they’re doing.”

“We will help them out through the process, whether it be tying knots, or unhooking a fish, or putting a worm on a hook, or whatever it may be.”

It is asked that children 10 and under be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited to 50 participants and will fill up fast. Registration is requested by June 2nd.
