Marysville’s City Park is about to come alive with red, white and blue fun as final touches are made for An Old-Fashioned Fourth of July this Friday. With activities planned throughout the day, the celebration offers a laid-back, small-town vibe with something for all ages. All of the events are open to the public.
The morning kicks off at 9 a.m. with the Walk, Run or Ride along the Blue River Rail Trail, starting at Backroads Bicycle. The casual outing is perfect for families and early risers, with a special scavenger hunt for kids 12 and under, plus drinks and snacks to keep everyone refreshed.
At 10 a.m., teams will line up at the Historic Union Pacific Depot for the Road Rally, a countryside adventure full of clues and competition. The cost is $10 per person or $40 max per carload, with proceeds supporting depot preservation.
From 1 to 4:30 p.m., the focus shifts to Marysville City Park, where games, contests and family-friendly activities will be in full swing. Whether you’re trying your hand at croquet, flickin’ a rubber chicken, testing your aim in lemonade pong or launching a kite into the summer sky, it’s a chance to slow down and have some fun—just like the Fourth used to be.
At 2:30 p.m., the Bike Parade and the Pet Parade will take place side by side. Prizes will be awarded in each parade for Best in Show, Most Patriotic and Best Group Entry, with winners receiving Chamber Bucks.
It’s a Sweet Treat Day Bakery and Mama Ging’s House of Lumpia will be serving up delicious options from noon until 5 p.m.
“This is just good, old-fashioned fun,” said Brian Fragel, who’s helping coordinate the afternoon events. “It’s kids running around and everybody just enjoying the day together.”
