The Geary County Historical Society’s annual Ice Cream Social will be held Saturday, September 14th, this year with the addition of a vintage car show to the lineup. The event, which also includes live music and food, will be held at the museum grounds located at 530 North Adams from 10 am-2 pm. Food for sale will include: hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, popcorn, homemade pie, and ice cream. Cash is suggested. Local musicians including the Kansas Brigade Band, the Junction City High School Pep Band, and North 40 will perform throughout the day. A musical chair-style cakewalk will be held, and hands-on STEAM activities will be available for children.
The Hot Dogs and Hot Rods car show will begin at 9 am with a special coffee hour for the car owners, and then will open to the public at 10 am. Car show registration is currently open, and spaces are limited so early registration is encouraged. Registration can be filled out at the museum or online at: https://forms.gle/DRntz3BQEnkDGMpY9. A donation to the Historical Society at the car owner’s discretion is the only cost associated with entry.
This annual event is one of the Historical Society’s oldest traditions and all proceeds benefit the Historical Society’s annual budget. Sponsors for the event include the Geary County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Smithfield’s, Hy-Vee, and Walmart. Homemade pies are provided by local volunteers and 4-H organizations. For questions about registration for the car show or the event please contact Heather at gearyhistory@gmail.com or 785-238-1666.
