The Sounds of Soul, an acclaimed Motown tribute act from Tampa Bay, Fla., is bringing their high-energy show to Marshall County for two public performances on September 27 and 28.
Their residency is sponsored by the Marshall County Arts Cooperative.
Performance schedule:
– Friday, September 27 – Vermillion Community Center. A smoked pork chop dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by the show at 7 p.m. Tickets for the dinner and show are $25; tickets for the show only are $10. – Saturday, September 28 – Venue 36 in Marysville at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for ages 18 and under.
Since their inception in 1996, The Sounds of Soul has performed over 250 shows per year and headlined major venues from Los Angeles to the French Quarter. They have shared the stage with music icons like The O’Jays and Bobby Brown. The group began when four vocalists sang at local bars and hotel lounges in the Tampa Bay area—until a producer saw their potential and built an entire show around them.
The group is known for their superior vocals, slick choreography and electrifying energy. The group’s repertoire includes chart-toppers from The Temptations, The Four Tops, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, The Supremes, Lionel Richie, Tina Turner, Barry White and more.
Motown music revolutionized the music industry in the 1960s. Its roots are grounded in gospel, rhythm and blues and jazz. Soul music was born out of the Civil Rights Movement, delivering heartfelt lyrics and rich harmonies that made Motown Records a force in pop culture.
“We are so excited to welcome The Sounds of Soul to Marshall County,” said Hannah Schroller-Simpson, the arts cooperative’s vice president. “In addition to the public performances, the group will perform special shows for junior high and high school students as well as local nursing home residents. Their music crosses generations and brings the community together.”
