The National Greyhound Association’s (NGA) 2025 Spring Nationals will be held from April 14th to the 18th in Abilene. This annual event brings people and greyhounds from around the world for a week of racing and camaraderie.
Jim Gartland, NGA Executive Director, said there will be over 100 greyhounds represented from around the world. Gartland spoke about this two-week event.
“The first week is filled with what we call schooling races, which are basically training races for all the puppies that are going to be participating in the meet.”
“Then the week of the meet encompasses two rounds of racing, a lot of board meetings, and various evening activities for all the people in attendance. Finally, it culminates with our auction, selling the greyhounds on Friday.”
Gartland said the races are open to the public and people are encouraged to attend. Replays will also be shown on the local Eagle Channel for Cable Subscribers.
“We encourage people to come out and watch the races. I remember in years past we’d have school buses filled with kids come out and watch, but we haven’t had that in a couple of years now.
“It’s entertaining to watch the Greyhounds go around and there’s a lot of folks out there watching and cheering, so please join us. Once again, that’s Monday and Thursday from 9:00 AM till around 12:00 or 12:30 PM.”
While attending Abilene for the Spring Nationals take the opportunity to visit the Greyhound Hall of Fame Museum as well. This is a unique event for Kansas and is sure to be a great week for all who attend. More information can be found at https://www.ngagreyhounds.com.
