Riley County Genealogical Society to Host 4th Annual Pie Party on Platt House Lawn

By: Ryan Duey

The Riley County Genealogical Society will host its 4th Annual Pie Party on the lawn of the Historic Platt House in Manhattan on Sunday, September 15th at 2:00 p.m.

The party will feature the local Acoustic Folk n Roll Band the “Grateful Dudes” performing at 2:30. Judy Regehr with the Genealogical Society said the idea of a Pie Party came about after a Kansas State University Professor’s Retirement Party.

“In the summer of 2021, I believe it was, Dave and I went to Mickey Ransom’s retirement party. Mickey didn’t like cake, so he asked for a pie party. The party was a big success.

I got to thinking what a great idea a pie party on the Platt House lawn would be, especially if we had music on a lovely fall afternoon, so I suggested it to our committee that was planning ways to publicize the society’s work in the community. That’s how it started. The rest is history.”

Bring your own lawn chairs and listen to some music while enjoying a variety of pies. More information can be found on the Genealogical Society’s Facebook page.
