9th Annual MHK Turkey Trot 5K set for Thanksgiving Day

The Manhattan Running Company will hold its 9th annual MHK Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day beginning at 9:00 a.m. Starting in Aggieville, racers will participate in a 5K through the streets of Manhattan.

Ben Sigle with the Manhattan Running Company and an organizer of the Turkey Trot said it has grown yearly since the first race.

“Thanksgiving is actually the number one day for running in the United States. You put a race on that day and a lot of times if you promote it at all you’re going to get a lot of sign-ups. When we first started in 2016 I think, we had like 750 people the first year and now we’re almost at 1200, so it’s just been growing. It’s a lot of fun, with a lot of families out there.”

Sigle said this annual race is a philanthropy effort to help local charities.

“Every race that we do, we have a local charity that we help support and this one is the Flint Hills Breadbasket. Over the years, we’ve donated to not only them but to other local charities. I think over the last 15 years we’ve donated over $350,000 to local charities.”
