The City of Washington will close several blocks of Main Street on Wednesday, June 11th, to accommodate approximately 377 bicyclists and 50 support personnel participating in the annual Bike Across Kansas Tour.

The Washington City Council finalized the decision at its May meeting, agreeing to block off C Street from 4th Street to College Street to ensure safety and reduce confusion.

Ryan Kern, director of economic development and tourism, emphasized the need for a clear route to the school where cyclists will stay overnight.

Streets will be blocked early to prevent parking, and cyclists are expected mid-morning and will arrive throughout the day. Streets should reopen by 5 p.m.

The council also voted to waive food vendor fees and offer free swimming at the pool on June 11th. No special arrangements are needed for the cyclists’ departure on June 12th.
