The Emmanuel Church of Abilene just finished its sixth Nehemiah Project this month. Every year members select a family in the community that could use a little help and spends a week making a difference in their lives.
Lead Pastor Marc Riegel said this Project was brought to Abilene by the former lead pastor of the church, which is based on a character from the Old Testament.
Riegel said the families that are chosen are not of the Emmanuel church and each year’s Project is based on what the selected family needs. This ambitious Project is made possible thanks to supporting businesses and volunteers.
This year the Nehemiah Project helped a family of seven by adding a third bedroom to their home, renovating the kitchen and bathroom, and adding a fresh coat of paint to the home. Thanks to the Emmanuel church and the many supporters they are able to help improve families’ lives in a remarkable amount of time.
