Everybody Counts, a non-profit organization in Manhattan, will hold its 13th annual community event on Saturday, August 2nd, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Douglass Recreation Center Complex.
Debbie Nuss, Everybody Counts Chair, said this event was organized in response to a report that a large number of students in the area school district were experiencing homelessness.
“There was a desire on the part of the community to make sure that those students and their families knew about what resources are available. We also recognized that there had to be many, many other families in similar situations in the community.”
“That’s what made us decide to start this event. The first one was very small, and it just grows and grows each year.”
“We also know that the need in the community continues to grow. So, the need for information about these services is very important.”
Ness said this annual event will have about 65 to 70 agencies available this year. This event provides free services to those in need.
“The community comes together to provide a variety of free health services and information to the community.”
“There will be social service agencies and community organizations that are available to help people in the community who might not always be able to take care of themselves, or might need a little extra boost.”
There will be a free food distribution, community booths, free health checks, free clothing, free pet services, and much more.
This event is open to anyone, no questions asked, Nuss said. More information about Everybody Counts can be found on their Facebook page.
