On Sunday, April 14th, the Herington Historical Museum, in partnership with the Dickinson County Historical Society, will be holding “Tombstone Talks” at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Herington.
This fun event takes attendees from tombstone to tombstone where reenactors will be portraying an individual from the past. Six people from Herington’s past have been chosen. Sharon Kolanowski, President of the Herington Museum Board, said the event will feature persons that had prominent significance to Herington’s development of the railroad, the town namesake, and business owners.
Kolanowski noted that one individual they will present is William Liggett, a local businessman and hotelier. In addition to his Tombstone tour, tours of his former home will be offered to attendees, thanks to the generosity of the current owners. Liggett’s home is on the registry of Dickinson County Historic Homes.
Tours will take place at 2:00, 2:30, 3:00, and 3:30 p.m. Each tour will begin at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Herington. Groups are limited to 30 people per tour. Tickets are available at the Herington Historical Museum or the Dickinson County Heritage Center.
