The 6th Annual “Kickin’ It Country” for Connor’s Cuddles fundraiser is set for Saturday, September 13th, at the Commercial Building on the NCK Fairgrounds in Belleville. This year’s theme will be Casino Style, with doors opening at 5:00 p.m.
Connor’s Cuddles provides blankets and gift cards to children and their families battling childhood medical battles. Christine Ray-Strutt, President of Connor’s Cuddles, said what started as a small idea turned into something she never expected.
“I started out making blankets, which we call Connor’s Cuddles, for kids who are going through a big medical battle.”
“My first thought was that I was going to make 30 or 40 blankets a year, but things kind of went crazy on us as far as donations and materials.”
“We have made over 2600 blankets, with over 900 of those having been shipped out across the United States and to three other countries.”
Strutt said they deliver blankets and gift cards to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Omaha, Iowa, and beyond.
This year’s event will feature a brisket and pulled pork meal, raffles, auctions, dancing, and more. Raffle tickets are currently available, with chances of winning many items, including a TV, a whole hog, a gun, a youth mini bike, and more.
Strutt said the community is amazing with all the support they give for this event.
“People are amazing. We get so many items donated every year for the auctions and raffles. It’s just been incredible.”
“I don’t know why I’m surprised. People were amazing when Connor was going through his battle with supporting us and his fight, and it has carried right on over into our endeavor.”
“Like I said, we bring smiles and comfort to sick kiddos as well as fight for a cure for childhood cancer.”
Head to the NCK Fairgrounds this Saturday for an evening of fun and company while supporting a wonderful organization and cause. For tickets and other information, visit the “Kickin’ It Country” for Connor’s Cuddles Facebook event page.
