The Longford PRCA Rodeo is holding barrel racing competitions to select four exhibition riders for this year’s rodeo.
The competition is open to girls who graduated high school this spring and younger. Michelle Ware, an organizer for the event, said the girls with the fastest times over the whole summer will be contacted before the rodeo and asked to participate.
The Longford PRCA Rodeo is holding three of these competitions over the summer. The first was held in June, the next will be held on July 20, and the final competition will be held on August 18. Ware noted that girls must run in at least two of the three competitions to qualify.
Entry costs $10 per run and girls are allowed three runs per night. The money then goes into a pot to be redistributed to the riders with the fastest times each night. The fastest time gets 40%, second gets 30%, third gets 20%, and fourth gets 10%.
This is the second year the Longford PRCA Rodeo has held competitions to determine the barrel racing riders for their yearly pro rodeo on August 30 and 31.
