From May 18th-24th, Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Centers across the country will celebrate EMS Week. A week dedicated to honoring the history of the profession and the dedicated work EMS professionals do daily.
Erin Evert Williams, Administrator at Republic County EMS, said there are many different types of services including, full-time, volunteer, combination services, and more. And all of them put in an incredible amount of time to serve their community.
“People put a lot of time in, and I’m not sure the general public realizes just how much time people volunteer and leave their families to go and cover things.”
“Whether transferring patients from one hospital to the next, or those major emergencies like car wrecks, or when you have natural disasters, EMS workers go to all of those.”
“It’s really important to just give them the respect and appreciation for leaving their families. It’s important to note that.”
This year’s theme is “We Care. For Everyone.” During the week, community members are encouraged to show gratitude to these professionals and their invaluable work.
Williams wanted to thank the Republic County communities for allowing them to serve their towns. Take the time to thank your local EMS professionals for their tireless efforts.
