Milford Nature Center to Hold a Wildflower Sale on Mother’s Day

By: Ryan Duey

On Sunday, May 11th, the Milford Nature Center will celebrate Mother’s Day with its annual Wildflower Sale from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. All proceeds from the Plant Sale go to the Friends of the Milford Nature Center, which helps fund animal care, the butterfly garden, and more.

Katlin Dunsing, Assistant Director of the Nature Center, said attendees will learn why native gardening is so important to Kansas pollinators.

“At Milford Nature Center, we are doing our annual Mother’s Day Wildflower Sale.”

“It’s going to be all native Kansas plants that you can plant to help promote pollinators in your backyard, or your gardens. We will also go over the basics of native gardening; how to maintain your native garden, and why native gardening is so crucial to Kansas ecosystems.”

Dunsing said native plants and wildflowers are crucial for Kansas wildlife and the environment, additionally, they need less water to grow.

“Planting native plants supports the health of ecosystems around us. It really does make a difference in wildlife. It has a giant effect on pollinators and helps the resilience of those pollinators that we have in Kansas.”

“Those pollinators will sometimes feed birds and other species around us as well, so planting native plants not only helps pollinators, but it helps the whole ecosystem around us.’

The Nature Center will be open from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. so attendees can explore all they have to offer. For more information on the Mother’s Day event visit their Facebook page.
