“Need a Midweek Mood Boost? Junction City Animal Shelter’s ‘Rent-A-Pup’ Brings the Dogs to You

By: Ryan Duey

The Junction City Animal Shelter is bringing an old program back to the community that is sure to be a hit. The Animal Shelter’s ‘Rent-A-Pup’ program allows businesses, schools, organizations, and others to unwind with a pup or two at their location for no cost.

Vanessa Gray, Shelter Director, said this is a great way for the pups at the Shelter to socialize. They offered a program like this until the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

“We had a field trip a few weeks back where we brought some of our dogs to Station 2 here in Junction City and the dogs had a great time, the firefighters had a great time, and we did as well.”

“So, we figured it was about time to bring it back because it’s just fun for everybody and it’s a great program for the dogs, especially to get socialized.”

Gray talked about how your organization can have their furry friends brought to you.

“Essentially, how the program works is you can e-mail us, or even come in person and chat with us and we will get you on the schedule that works best for us.”

“Usually, it’ll be on a Wednesday because we’re closed to the public on Wednesdays, so it’s a little bit easier for us to get out of here, but we can definitely do other days too. It just varies on our schedule.”

“Either your agency, school, or anything like that, we’ll bring them down and we bring some treats with us, and we just hang out with them. You can hang out with the pups and just have fun and pet them. You can give them treats if you would like as well.”

While the program is free, the Shelter always accepts donations to help them continue community programs like this. More information on the ‘Rent-A-Pup’ program can be found by visiting their Facebook page or emailing Gray at vanessa.gray@jcks.com
