Neighbor to Neighbor Abilene Launches ‘Down to Earth Helpers Day’ to Help Elderly Homeowners

Neighbor to Neighbor Abilene is launching a new initiative to assist elderly homeowners with outdoor maintenance during its inaugural “Down to Earth Helpers Day” on Saturday, May 3rd, from 8 a.m. to noon. This new annual event aims to help elderly residents who struggle with yard upkeep, such as raking leaves, mowing lawns, and trimming bushes.

Community members can volunteer, donate supplies, or nominate elderly homeowners in need by visiting Neighbor to Neighbor’s website. To qualify, elderly recipients must own their homes, and they can submit their top three maintenance requests. Once the number of volunteers is determined, selected homeowners will be contacted.

Neighbor to Neighbor is seeking volunteers, including church groups, youth groups, Boy Scouts, and businesses looking for team-building opportunities. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, though those using power tools must be 18 or older. Early sign-ups are encouraged to help organizers plan effectively.
