Neighbor to Neighbor of Abilene will host its 6th Annual “Buzz for a Cause” Spelling Bee Fundraiser on Saturday, February 1st at St. Andrews Parish Hall, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
This annual fundraiser is an opportunity for community members to join in on a fun, friendly competition in support of Neighbor to Neighbor’s efforts to help families in need in Dickinson County. Co-Director Amanda Robinson and Marketing Director Ashley Herrington spoke about how the proceeds will help those in the County.
“This year we are doing this fundraiser for our emergency response. Last year alone we had over 300 people reach out to us needing some type of emergency response. Whether that was rent, utilities, gas vouchers, groceries, hygiene items, co-pays for medicine, or things like that.”
“This year that’s a really big need for us. It’s one of the main things we try to help people with.”
Along with friendly competitions, the evening will feature a nacho bar, raffle opportunities, a live auction, and more. Some of the auction items include a barn quilt, a movie night in the Lebold Mansion, and a date with a special lady from Abilene, Sister Loretta. Herrington and Robinson said the date will consist of dinner and a live show.
“On Saturday, February 22nd Sister Loretta and her date will go to Martinelli’s in Salina for dinner for two at 5:30. Then they will go to the Elton Dan and the Rocket Band Show, which is an Elton John impersonator at the Stiefel Theater at 7:30. So, they will have dinner at Martinelli’s and then enjoy a fun little concert.”
Both said to dress in your best Hawaiian or Bee-themed outfits, as prizes will be given to the best-dressed partygoers. For the Spelling Bee patrons can bring their own team or they will pair people up.
Your ticket will get you entry into the Spelling Bee, a nacho bar, one drink ticket, and one raffle ticket. Tickets for the event can be purchased at Neighbor to Neighbor, at the door the evening of the event, or online at https://Buzzforacause.eventbrite.com.
