A series of nutrition presentations for those interested in learning more about heart-healthy eating will begin in March. These presentations will cover several topics including the impact sodium has on high blood pressure and using herbs and spices for flavor when cooking, heart-healthy fats, and heart-smart eating while out and about. Each presentation will include a taste-testing opportunity. This heart-healthy eating series is free. The River Valley District is offering this series in two different locations during the month of March, so we hope one will work conveniently with your schedule:
Republic County Hospital in Belleville, KS
4-5 PM on Mondays, March 2, 16, 23, 30
Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center, KS
10-11 AM on Tuesdays, March 3, 17, 24, 31
Later this spring, in April, The River Valley District will offer Dining with Diabetes, a four-week program for those with type 2 diabetes and any loved ones who might support them. This program covers various approaches to best manage the disease and how to make the healthiest food choices. Over the course of the four weeks, participants will learn more about the macro and micronutrients and the role they play in managing diabetes. Each session includes recipe demonstration and food sampling. Dining with Diabetes costs $25/participant. Please find the details below:
Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center, KS
4-6 PM on Tuesdays, April 14, 21, May 5, 12
Because these programs do involve food prep, participants are asked to register in advance so we can ensure there is enough food for everyone. To register, please call any of the River Valley District offices, the Belleville office number is 785-527-5084, the Clay Center office number is 785-632-5335, the Washington office number is 785-325-2121.
