Wakefield VFW Post 7774 invites the public to join them at the Post for its annual National POW/MIA Recognition Day event on Friday, September 19th, at 7:00 p.m.
Honored yearly on the third Friday of September, the day commemorates those who committed and sacrificed their lives during military service, while also honoring the families of those never accounted for.
Wakefield is designated as one of only three POW/MIA cities in the state of Kansas. Post Commander Jon Gran highlighted the work done by POW/MIA Chair Glenn Nelson on his efforts with the program.
“As the commander of the VFW in Wakefield, I appointed POW/MIA chairman, Glenn Nelson.”
“He is a retired major, and he always does a wonderful job. A goal he did achieve was to make Wakefield the third POW/MIA city in Kansas.”
“With that, we do a declaration every year saying we will promote the POW/MIA program within the city, fly the flag, and try to do what we can to help the program out.”
Join the Wakefield VFW to honor the estimated 83,000 service members who remain unaccounted for, but ‘are not forgotten.’ Following the ceremony, refreshments will be served.
