Barney, a dedicated K-9 officer with the Junction City Police Department (JCPD), is retiring after 11 years of exemplary service. As his 13th birthday approaches on October 31, Barney has earned numerous accolades from the Heart of America Police Dog Association for his work, which included drug detection, search warrants, and public demonstrations.
Throughout his career, Barney played a crucial role in removing significant amounts of drugs and drug money from the streets, showcasing his impressive skills and dedication. One notable achievement was when Barney, alongside another K-9 unit, located a suspect hiding in a field, leading to a peaceful arrest.
Now, Barney will enjoy his retirement with his longtime handler, Officer Nick Blake, who expressed gratitude for Barney’s unwavering service. JCPD will honor Barney’s retirement with a celebration on September 6. Barney’s legacy is marked by his relentless commitment to keeping the community safe, and he now looks forward to a well-deserved rest filled with treats and relaxation.
