February 12th through the 16th is Wildfire Awareness Week. Throughout the week the Kansas Forest Service will be sharing information on how to prepare for the danger of wildfires and what to do if a wildfire threatens your home.
Bryce Haverkamp, the District Fire Management Officer for Northeastern Kansas, says the Kansas Forest Service will be putting information about Wildfires on their and their partner’s social medias.
Haverkamp says it is always important to be aware of the danger of a wildfire, even if conditions at the moment don’t seem to suggest the possibility of one occurring.
Haverkamp says Kansas has already seen wildfires as of February 8th, adding that the risk of wildfire doesn’t completely go away when it’s been raining or snowing.
