On Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 9:51 PM, Officers with the Concordia Police Department heard a loud noise and screaming. While Officers were attempting to locate the screaming, dispatchers received 911 calls from the 400 block of West 5th St. regarding two juveniles who were severely burned.
When Officer arrived on scene, they located two juveniles consistent with the 911 report of burn wounds. Concordia Fire Department was called to scene. Both juveniles were transported to North Central Kansas Medical Center in critical condition. Both juveniles were later transported to a burn unit at a level one trauma hospital. At this time, both juveniles are still in critical condition.
After investigation, it was determined that juveniles were pouring accelerant onto a bonfire. The fire traveled up the stream of the accelerant, which caused an explosion. No names will be released at this time due to the ages of the victims. No further information will be released at this time.
