Vanessa Gray, Director of the Junction City Animal Shelter, announced via social media that the shelter will be closed for at least two weeks after a dog tested positive for Parvovirus. The infected dog, despite being fully vaccinated, displayed symptoms last week and tragically passed away during treatment. The closure is necessary to monitor all other dogs for signs of the virus and ensure their safety.
During this period, the shelter will not be able to adopt out any dogs, and cat viewing will also be suspended to limit transmission. Stray dogs can only be temporarily housed for up to 20 minutes. The “Clear The Shelters” event will be extended by 10 days once the shelter reopens. The shelter will remain available via phone, email, and Facebook for questions. Gray urges pet owners to keep their pets at home during this time.
