Republic County Health Department Ends In-Home Services Due to Low Numbers

Republic County Health Director Faye Jones announced that despite public perception, there is minimal demand for in-home care services in Republic County. After decades of service, the county health department ended services such as bathing and housekeeping, due to low client numbers.

Jones had hoped to renew the department’s Medicare license since she took over nearly three years ago. Clients had to pay out-of-pocket as government reimbursement wasn’t available. Despite extensive local advertising, the department served only 10 clients, with just three needing bathing assistance.

Jones suggested that families may have adapted to using other homecare-type services during Covid, reducing the need for their services. More comprehensive care, such as overnight support, is outside the department’s capacity. The recent retirement of longtime aide Donna Moravek solidified the decision. Jones noted they may reconsider the service if demand increases in the future.
