Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan has received certification of its Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Department by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). This certification is recognition of the program’s commitment to improving the quality of life of patients by enhancing standards of care.

Cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation programs are designed to help people with cardiovascular issues (e.g., heart attacks, coronary artery bypass graft surgery) and pulmonary conditions (e.g., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease/COPD, respiratory symptoms) recover faster and live healthier. Both programs include exercise, education, counseling and support for patients and their families.

To earn certification, Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan’s Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Department participated in an application process that required extensive documentation of the program’s practices. AACVPR Program Certification is the only peer-review accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by AACVPR and other related professional societies. Each program’s application is reviewed by the AACVPR Program Certification Committee, and certification is awarded by the AACVPR Board of Directors and is valid for three years.

In 2018, AACVPR moved to an outcomes-based process with performance measurements that represent more meaningful outcomes. Therefore, AACVPR-certified programs are leaders in the cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation field because they offer the most advanced practices available and have proven track records of high quality patient care.

“We are incredibly proud to receive this certification from the AACVPR and our team’s efforts to implement best practice standards of care,” said Eric Melander, PT DPT, Director of Rehabilitation Services for Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. “These important services are being recognized by more and more providers in the healthcare community, and we are now seeing more than 750 patient visits per month on average. With so many patients receiving care in this area, it creates a very healthy, supportive environment where people with shared experiences can motivate each other in their rehab journey.”

The Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Department is part of Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan’s outpatient services and is located on the first floor of the main hospital campus. For more information, visit http://bit.ly/3Hx6OE4.
