The Geary County Food Pantry officially opened its new facility to the public on Thursday, May 29th, welcoming a long line of guests eager to access food resources. Located in Junction City, the new 3,800-square-foot building, built by Hutton Construction, more than doubles the size of the previous location.
Though the pantry is operational, ongoing work such as landscaping, freezer installation, and interior trim remains. Board President Julia Loper and Director Debbie Johns expressed gratitude for the overwhelming community support received during the transition. Volunteers and staff played a key role in the opening day, ensuring operations ran smoothly.
The pantry’s hours remain unchanged, serving the community on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. A formal ribbon-cutting and grand opening event is planned for late summer or early fall.
