Marysville Man Quietly Helps Those in Need through Goodfellows Organization

Goodfellows, once a prominent community organization in Marysville, now continues through the efforts of one man, Bill Phillipi. Originally part of a national network aiding those in crisis, Goodfellows evolved from a shoebox giving to a year-round emergency fund.

Phillipi, a retired highway patrolman, took over the tradition about a decade ago, quietly helping locals with meals, clothing, utilities, and more. With support from local trusts and occasional donations, the fund persists.

This year, Goodfellows will join 60 other causes during Pony Up Marysville Match Day on May 2nd, hosted by the Marysville Community Foundation.

Phillipi views the mission as a “hand-up, not a hand-out” and a modern take on being a Secret Santa. Local churches and groups rely on him in times of need, continuing a legacy rooted in compassion and community service.
