Northeast Kansas Animal Welfare Foundation Announces $25,000.00 in Grant Funding Available for Animal Welfare Organizations

Topeka, KS— The Northeast Kansas Animal Welfare Foundation board of directors has allocated $25,000.00 in grant funding available to shelters, rescues, and human-animal support services in a twenty-four county region of Northeast Kansas. Organizations have until February 15, 2023 to apply for financial support. This is the first grant application opportunity provided by the Foundation.

“We have spent the last year and a half traveling throughout the region and meeting with animal welfare professional to learn about the challenges they are facing,” said Bill Acree, President & CEO of NKAWF. “We believe that this grant opportunity will provide some much needed relief to organizations struggling with overcrowding and a lack of financial support.”

NKAWF has found that some shelters and rescues have faced an uncertain future and whether or not they will be able to keep their doors open. Smaller organizations are struggling to keep up the with demand of providing sheltering, veterinary care, and resources for the community. Agencies may apply for grants for such things as capital improvements, spay/neuter assistance, technology upgrades, transportation, collaboration, and professional development. Winning applicants may receive up to $5,000.00 per organization. The grant awardees will be announced in March 2023.

Justin Brokar, Vice President of NKAWF said, “We have a two prong approach to making grant opportunities available. First, we work with donor partners to establish funds to be used to make grants available. Secondly, we work with animal welfare organizations to identify how the financial support will most greatly benefit the pets of Northeast Kansas. We’re thrilled with the response we’ve received from donors to make this funding possible.”

The grant application can be downloaded at www.nkawf.org/grants or completed online at the same link. To qualify, animal welfare organizations must be licensed and in good standing with the State of Kansas and Internal Revenue Service and operate within the following counties of Kansas: Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson, Miami, Franklin, Douglas, Jefferson, Atchison, Doniphan, Brown, Jackson, Shawnee, Chase, Wabaunsee, Pottawatomie, Nemaha, Marshall, Riley, Washington, Clay, Geary, Dickinson, Morris, and Lyon.
