Clay County Medical Center (CCMC) is pleased to welcome Erin Rose May as its newest administrative intern, working directly under Chief Executive Officer Austin Gillard as part of her Master of Public Health (MPH) program through Kansas State University.

Erin Rose brings with her a passion for healthcare, a commitment to rural communities, and a diverse background in both clinical and administrative aspects of care. The daughter of Roger and Susan May, Erin Rose was raised in Oberlin, Kansas, as a fifth-generation member of May Family Farms. From an early age she developed an appreciation for service and community support, which now fuels her ambition to lead in rural healthcare.

“I’ve always wanted to help people reach their fullest potential in health,” Erin said. “That goes
beyond just treating illness and addressing the full picture: financial, social, and community wellbeing. Public health and healthcare administration allow me to help solve those real-world problems.”

Erin’s hands-on experience began early. After volunteering in a long-term care facility, she earned her CNA license at age 17 and has worked in direct patient care for the past several years. She also completed a shadowing program, where she experienced the inner workings of an entire healthcare system. That included observing providers and CNAs to executive leadership. Additionally, she plans to get her master’s degree in physician assistant studies to increase her medical and healthcare knowledge and clinical skills. Her long-term goals are to work as an Administrator and a Physician Assistant in a rural area.

Choosing Clay County Medical Center for her internship was an intentional decision. “I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone and learn in a facility that is not only successful but known for its positive culture and forward-thinking leadership,” she said. Erin was referred to CCMC by Dr. Linda Yarrow, her instructor at K-State and long-time dietitian with the hospital. “From the moment I arrived, everyone has been welcoming and collaborative. It’s been a wonderful learning environment.”

“Working with Erin has been a privilege,” said CEO Austin Gillard. “Her energy, compassion, and strong sense of purpose align perfectly with our mission at CCMC. We are excited to help her grow and to learn from her in return.”

Clay County Medical Center is proud to support the next generation of healthcare professionals and is thrilled to have Erin Rose as part of the team this summer.
