Scott Specialties, a manufacturer of orthopedic goods, has announced that it will be closing its Belleville and Concordia plants, effective July 31st. The closure will affect approximately sixty workers across the two locations.
Opening in 1962, Scott Specialties manufactures over 2000 different soft goods orthopedic products, such as braces, compression socks, and more. Products are distributed to various retail, sports medicine, and medical markets across the world.
The business is Belleville’s largest privately owned industry, and the economic impact of the plant closures could negatively impact both cities in excess of $20 million based on the Kansas Department of Economic Development’s multiplier.
City leaders are hoping to find new business owners to purchase the buildings in the near future.
