Arlo D. Richter, age 93, of Barnes, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington.
Arlo was born April 16, 1931, on the family farm north of Green, to Alvin H. and Bertha M. (Steenbock) Richter. He graduated from Barnes High School in 1949. He was a farmer and a stockman working on the family farm his entire life.
Arlo had been a member of the Zion Fancy Creek United Methodist Church, south of Barnes. He enjoyed helping on his brother Neil’s PET project, Personal Energy Transportation, a missions project making scooters for handicapped people. Arlo and his four-legged buddy, Sport, loved meeting friends for coffee and dinner at the Barnes Café. His other enjoyment was the many John Deere toys he collected.
Survivors include his brother and sisters: Neil Richter of Leonardville, Twila (Glen) Olson of Ringsted, Iowa, Marcene Richter of Leonardville, Lois (Dean) Grittman of Topeka and Sherre (Lowell) Johnson of Topeka, a brother-in-law, Myron Lund of Leonardville and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Arlo in death were his parents and a sister, Alice Lund.
Viewing will be from noon to 8:00 pm, Friday, November 15, 2024, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the Fancy Creek Zion Church, south of Barnes with Pastor Bruce Ferguson officiating. Congregational hymns will include: “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace”.
Burial will follow at the Fancy Creek Zion Cemetery.
