Carol was born on March 31, 1946 in Belleville, the daughter of Henry and Rosemary (Baxa) Chopp. She grew up on a farm outside of Munden with her parents and siblings, Paul and Marilyn.

Carol graduated from Munden High School in 1964, then went on to Mount Saint Scholastica College in Atchison, earning a bachelor’s degree in music education in 1968. Carol began her teaching career at St. Peter’s School in Kansas City, MO and she also taught music in the Washington, Linn, and Hanover elementary schools. After working as a paraprofessional, she went back to school, earning a masters’ degree in special education from Kansas State University at the age of 60. Carol spent the last years of her career as a special education teacher at the Southern School District in Wymore, NE.

Carol met Gary Stamm, of Washington, in 1972. They were united in marriage on June 16, 1973 at St. George Catholic Church in Munden. Carol and Gary were married for 51 years and were blessed with four children and 15 grandchildren. Carol dedicated her life to raising her family with Gary on their farm near Washington and enjoying the company of her numerous grandchildren.

Carol was a member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Washington, volunteering for many years as a CCD teacher and organist for weekend Masses. She used her gift of music to serve the church and the area community. Carol loved the spring and summertime, especially when her flower gardens were in bloom. Roses were her favorite flower, and she and Gary made many trips to area greenhouses looking for the perfect ones. She also enjoyed attending K-State football games with Gary, baking, and sewing baby blankets for her grandchildren.
