David Lee Smith, 79 of Idana, died on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at the Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center. He was born on July 25, 1943 in Los Angeles, California, the son of Preston Lee and Leone Edna (Martin) Smith.
David graduated from Commerce City High School in Commerce City, Colorado. He married Lynnea Swansen on March 25, 1968 in Denver, Colorado. David earned his Associates Degree from KCKCC and worked for Ideal Truck Lines as a dispatcher. The couple moved to Clay Center in 1973, where he continued to work for Ideal for over 10 years. He then worked for the USD 379 Transportation Department as transportation supervisor for over 19 years. He is preceded in death by parents.
He was a member of the Idana First Presbyterian Church and a former 4-H leader for the Washington Headliners.
David loved music and played in a band called the Illusions. He loved everything fast including, race boats, snow mobiles and cars.
Survivors include his wife, Lynnea Smith of Idana, Kansas; daughter, Christine and husband, Brady Wilson of Littleton, Colorado; son, Aaron Smith of Wakefield, Kansas; son, Mike and wife, Jessie Smith of Clay Center, Kansas; 5 grandchildren, Jynnea Wilson, Jeffrey Wilson, Makayla Smith, Grant Smith and Lauren Smith; 1 great grandson, Peter Lucier; sister, Rosa Staten of Tonganoxie, Kansas; and sister, Kathy VanHoozer of Kansas City, Kansas.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 10:30AM at the Idana First Presbyterian Church in Idana, Kansas.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the USD 379 Transportation Department and can be sent c/o funeral home.
