Eileen Wilma Hageman, age 96, of Riley, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born April 6, 1927, on the family farm near Leonardville, the daughter of Lucas D. and Lena J. (Potts) Buss. She graduated from Leonardville Rural High School in 1945 and taught in a one room rural school for four years.
On May 7, 1949, she married Leo M. Hageman. They had three sons, Jerald Eugene, Larry Allen and Ronald LeRoy. After they were married and started a family, they moved to her home farmstead where she worked beside Leo and her boys farming-cultivating the land and raising livestock while also making sure her family always had a hot meal. When the boys were in high school, she took a job with U.S.D. 378 Riley County as a cook. She retired after 22 years and continued to cook for Leonardville and Riley Senior Meals respectively, one day a week for many years. She remained active in both Senior Citizens organizations after she quit cooking.
Eileen was an active member of the Leonardville United Methodist Church and the Riley United Methodist Women. She loved her family, flowers, gardening, and music.
Preceding Eileen in death were her parents, her husband Leo (2010) of 61 years, a son Larry (2014), and two brothers.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry Hageman and wife Angie of rural Manhattan and Ron Hageman and wife Donna of Manhattan; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Hageman of Hoyt; ten grandchildren, Leona (Adam) Murphy, Jeremy (Elizabeth) Hageman, Ashley (Randall) Rowland, Lindsey Hageman, Jason (Carol) Holthaus, Ryan (Penny) Holthaus, Shawn (Bobbi) Holthaus, Cari Smith (fiancé, Billy Carreno), Kevin Holthaus, Stephanie (Matt) Sanderson, 27 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Leonardville Community Church with Pastors Sandy Ferguson and Kevin Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Leonardville United Methodist Cemetery.
A memorial may be made to the Eileen Hageman Memorial Fund, to be determined at a later date. Contributions may be left in the care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
