May 23, 1930 – May 26, 2024

On the morning of May 26, 2024 Francis “Frank” Gerald Hamel passed away at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. He was 94 years old.

Francis was born near St. Joseph, KS to Leon and Agnes Hamel on May 23, 1930. His youth was spent on the family farm. Not long after marrying Edna (Bisnette) on September 4, 1950, he went into the Marine Corps Serving during the Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge in May of 1954, he went to work at Kansas Power and Light. He continued working for them until he retired. The last several decades he and Edna have lived in Concordia, KS.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents Leon and Agnes, his brother Raymond and his son Benny.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years Edna, his children Annette (Richard) Gratny, Michael (Norma) Hamel, Tina (Larry) Peterson; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and Sister Rosemary Braun.

Visitation is Friday June 28, 2024 from 2pm – 6pm at Nutter Mortuary. The Vigil Service will follow visitation at 6pm at Nutter Mortuary.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday June 29, 2024 at 10:30am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, KS.

Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, St. Joseph, KS.
