Gary Bruce Thoman, age 70, died Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the KU Med Center in Kansas City. He was born June 26, 1952 in Concorida, KS to Wilfred and Jane (Charbonneau) Thoman.
Gary graduated from Jamestown High School in 1971. He served in the Kansas National Guard until 1980 when he was honorably discharged. He farmed for local farmers and worked at John Deere in Concordia until he found his true calling as a police officer. He began his career at the city of Concordia police department in 1986. During this time he had several undercover assignments. He then served in Shawnee County as a deputy at Lake Shawnee and made several lasting friendships there. In 2008 he became a deputy for the Republic County Sheriff’s department, retiring in 2016. In all he served 30 years in law enforcement. Once he retired he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and visits from his grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his wife, Vicky; daughter, Melanie Smith (Michael), Edmond, OK, son, Bruce Thoman, Jamestown, and daughter, Britni Andes (Kevin), Eglin AFB, Florida. He is also survived by sister, Linda Revell, Jamestown; brothers, Tom (Dawn) Thoman of Jamestown and Mark “Chris” Thoman (Christine) of Derby; sister-in-law, Marilyn Thoman, Concordia; grandchildren Kyson and Blakely Andes, Quincy Smith, and Koy, Kanan and Kalessi Larson, several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Barry, Jeff and Gerald; two sisters Kelly and Ronda; and son-in-law Jared Pearce.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas with Fr. Barry Brinkman officiating. Inurnment service will be held at a later time. Military honors will be conducted by the local American Legion Post #76.
There will be no visitation the night before.
